My interests as an artist revolve around translating the erasures, invisibilities, saturations, and patterns of our everyday lives into an abstract yet familiar visual vocabulary to address the universal through the particular.
I use paint mostly, especially gouache over the last few years, and more recently I’ve turned to video in order to mine the genres of portraiture, abstraction, and landscape for their associative abilities. Linking aspects of personality, gesture, and space to new forms of imagery, these genres provide a departure point from where I explore what lies at the edge of our conscious knowledge.
Through surfaces and layers inspired by clouds, rain, rainbows, the ocean, mist – collectively, water consolidated into something greater than itself – I found a fountain of material for my most recent works.
